Focus Your Efforts as a Coach – Part 1 of 2

Coaching is the fastest growing industry in this country because hiring a coach provides a high return on investment – research shows a 500-600% ROI!

This, of course, means there are lots of coaches! Some have training, some have none. Some coaches are very effective in their work, others have no work at all. Some subscribe to a Code of Ethics, others have not considered the value of having a Code of Ethics. What are you doing as a coach to ensure you are effective? What are you doing to secure work? As the New Year is fast approaching, now is an opportune time to consider how to focus your efforts as a coach.

What are you doing to ensure you are effective?

* After earning certification, you have a wealth of tools available to you – are you using your coaching tools? For example, those of you who earned your certification at the Center for Coaching Certification know how to create a tool for clients to have focus and intentionally develop positive, proactive thinking; are you using the tool yourself? On the Coach Login page there are hundreds of different tools to use yourself and to better serve your clients; are you reviewing the information and using what is at your finger tips?
* As with any profession, continuing education adds to your skill set and keeps you current. What is your plan for continuing education? Certified Professional Coaches at the Center for Coaching Certification must participate in at least 12 hours of continuing education every two years. The Center for Coaching Certification offers a free webinar every other month to provide the opportunity for meeting this requirement. Additionally, other training that is pertinent is an option. What training do you plan to attend? What have you attended that you recommend?

What are you doing to secure work as a coach?

* Increasingly employers are seeking training in coaching for professional positions. Sometimes companies pay for employees to attend training, other times they ask for it when applying for a new position. Are you effectively show-casing your talents and training?
* Coaches that are building a coaching practice have a multitude of opportunities. Review the webinars you attended on the Business of Coaching and on Marketing Your Coaching Business. Use the action planning tools provided and ensure you have taken the steps to set-up your business. Review your Marketing Plan and the ideas provided to expand your client base.
